gardens of prescott, August 2021

Every summer we do a monthly garden feature, to share with you the success and inspiration of other local gardeners here in Prescott, Arizona.  #gardensofprescott

For August I'm featuring a garden in the Williamson Valley area, northwest of downtown.

This garden is in a much newer part of town, than the July Garden, but it has a wonderful organic and lived-in feeling to it; like the garden has been here for a very long time.

Because it is located in an area with many old Oak trees, and was designed with meandering walks and small pockets of plantings and garden room destinations, it is friendly and inviting space to relax and entertain in the dappled light of the trees.

The owner and her husband have a true passion for their outdoor space and do the maintenance and gardening themselves.  She said that when they bought the property there was already the basic layout with walks and patios, but they have spent many years creating the lush garden that they now enjoy.

Besides the large Oak trees that create the cozy canopy and lovely dappled light, they have added lots of whimsical garden art and hidden treasures that make it fun to explore.  She has several small destinations (or what I like to call "garden rooms") that serve different functions, whether functional or just artistic.

The veggie patch is surrounded by a quaint little fence and an elaborate, rustic steel trellis with a gate.  There is a small greenhouse tucked into a back corner, but it's is not just a utilitarian space.   It is inviting with artwork and surrounded by plantings.  She has a small orchard area to one side with some young fruit trees. The dominant feature is a large pergola with comfortable seating to sink into and take a well deserved break after spending a day working in the garden.

Although the garden lot is a very generous size (I neglected to ask about the square footage), it doesn't have an exposed or expansive feeling to it.  This cottage-style garden is truly a personal and cozy space meant to be shared and enjoyed.

Thank you so much for giving us a sneak peek at your hidden paradise!

The greenhouse is a welcoming space for seed starting and overwintering delicate plants. The owner said that her husband built the work benches out of the crates that the greenhouse was shipped in.

submit your garden for a feature

In the summer season, June thru August, we will be doing a monthly feature of a local garden here in Prescott, Arizona.  #gardensofprescott

Ever wondered what's hidden behind that wonderful little cottage with the gate?  Maybe it's a secret garden!  Whether it's an ornamental yard, a little veggie patch, or an elaborate old garden, we want to know!  Homegrown gardens are our "thing" - inspired, created, and cared for by the homeowner (not by a landscape company).  Of course, that certainly doesn't mean that you never get help - we get it.

If you're interested in having your garden considered for a future feature, please reach out and tell us about it!

Since this is a new feature, and we've had so much interest, I'm considering adding a few autumn features for 2021.   And then, of course, there's next summer and it's never to early to plan these things!

What a beautiful space! The cozy gathering area under the pergola looks so comfortable and the views of potted flowers and garden art make it all more playful and relaxing. And I love the greenhouse!
