Every summer we do a monthly garden feature, to share with you the success and inspiration of other local gardeners here in Prescott, Arizona. #gardensofprescott For August I'm featuring a garden in the Williamson Valley area, northwest of downtown. This garden is in a much newer part of town, than the July Garden, but it has a wonderful organic and lived-in feeling to it; like the garden has been here for a very long time. Because it is located in an area with many old Oak trees, and was designed with meandering walks and small pockets of plantings and garden room destinations, it is friendly and inviting space to relax and entertain in the dappled light of the trees. ~ post continues below, click Read More ~ The owner and her husband have a true passion for their outdoor space and do the maintenance and gardening themselves. She said that when they bought the property there was already the basic layout with walks and patios, but they have spent many years creating the lush garden that they now enjoy. Besides the large Oak trees that create the cozy canopy and lovely dappled light, they have added lots of whimsical garden art and hidden treasures that make it fun to explore. She has several small destinations (or what I like to call "garden rooms") that serve different functions, whether functional or just artistic. The veggie patch is surrounded by a quaint little fence and an elaborate, rustic steel trellis with a gate. There is a small greenhouse tucked into a back corner, but it's is not just a utilitarian space. It is inviting with artwork and surrounded by plantings. She has a small orchard area to one side with some young fruit trees. The dominant feature is a large pergola with comfortable seating to sink into and take a well deserved break after spending a day working in the garden. Although the garden lot is a very generous size (I neglected to ask about the square footage), it doesn't have an exposed or expansive feeling to it. This cottage-style garden is truly a personal and cozy space meant to be shared and enjoyed. Thank you so much for giving us a sneak peek at your hidden paradise! |
