Color is tricky

It's pretty tough to make decisions on a big project when you have no clear set of guidelines to work with.

And one of the key elements to build from is a color plan that is customized to your surroundings, what you already have, and your preferences.

Learn about color palettes and how they can help with design decisions.

Every year we hear the big announcements about the new "Color of The Year" -- Pantone comes to mind.  Apparently there is a whole project and a mass of people involved in making that decision.

So, it's not hard to imagine how hard it can feel for you when you are trying to make a color decision for just one room or the exterior of your house.

And while it might be fun to think about using that new Color of the Year, I can promise you that color will most likely be outdated before you finish your project.

Color is emotional & should be connected to your place on earth, your surroundings.

For anyone that's ever tried to pick out a white for the walls, likely knows how tricky that is.  Who knew there were thousands of whites??!!

So, if you can't even decide which white to use, where to start??!!

Honestly, the same color can look dramatically different in two different rooms, or even on different walls depending on how the light changes during the day.

And on what kind of bulbs you use.  Or what is in that space.

You need a plan.  And input.

Get some help working through the process and developing a custom color palette.

The Whiskey Porch can do a color analysis on site, using technology and some fun tools to help identify your underlying colors and define what your new dream palette should be.  Something that will stand the test of time and still let you tweak and play with seasonal or fresh ideas.

You'll end up with a packet of swatches for your neutrals and your accents.

We can address exterior house colors, interiors, furniture, and the garden spaces.

This is a great place to start before getting into a major overhaul of your spaces because it will give you a core framework to help you make more confident decisions along the way.

And that feels so much better when you're making big investment decisions on things like couches, or cabinets, or counters.  It makes the whole process more fun.

If you'd like to learn more about what a color palette might look like and how the process works, I wrote a whole blog about a recent project we started for Chloe Woodruff at The Ride Prescott House here in town.

There you'll find a breakdown of how her Custom Color Palette came together, along with the whole back story about her Micro Design Process.

Thanks for following along.  I hope you found this helpful and reassuring - it's not impossible to choose the right white, I promise!  Let me know below in the comments if you've had any crazy color stories - it might be fun to share some of those bloopers with you all down the line.

Peace & contentment,
