here's to a little sparkle

Happy Independence Day Weekend!!

I've had this cactus now for so many years, I can't even remember the variety but when it blooms... oh - my - wow!  

The bloom is actually bigger than the cactus stems. 

​For those of you that love gardening and cactus but are maybe newer to the high country, I know how tricky it can be.

If you are used to more temperate areas like central or southern Arizona, or California, where literally every type of cactus and succulent grows and survives for years even with neglect, the Prescott area can be a challenge.  

​Most cactus and succulents won't survive our winters, it's true.  

But don't despair, because there's a good long list that will manage just fine with the right planting location and care in high desert settings. 

 I have a blog post planned to explore more of that.  Stay tuned.

​For now, I am just sharing this silly little clip I did of my glamorous cactus bloom and wishing you a Sparkly Independence Day weekend.
